Do I need a visa to go to Bratislava, Slovakia?

Slovakia is a member of the Schengen Agreement and the European Union. If you are not eligible for visa-free entry into Slovakia, then you need a visa to enter the country. Citizens of Schengen-member countries enjoy visa-free entry for up to 90 days, but they must carry a national ID while entering and travelling in Slovakia.

The Schengen Area consists of 23 EU member states and four non-EU countries:

Citizens from EU and EEA member countries do not need a visa to enter Slovakia. A valid passport OR a national ID card is needed.

Holders of Refugee Travel Documents are allowed to enter Slovakia without a visa, provided the status of refugee is granted in compliance to Convention, EU states, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland; Except those given refugee statuses from Austria, Cyprus, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovak Republic and Slovenia.

Visa Requirements:

- Valid Passport, at least 6 months before expiring
- Application form
- Color photo, at least 3 months recent
- Purpose of the trip
- Proof of financial funds - traveller,s cheque or bank statements while staying in Schengen countries
- Travel itinerary with return / onward tickets
- Complete travel documents
- Medical insurance (minimum cover of EUR 30,000)
- Proof of visa fee payment
